The current issue of Learn magazine features two articles that may interest business educators. Embedded below, the first article (pp.5-10) outlines the implementation of financial literacy into the new math curriculum in response to PISA’s new assessment of financial literacy alongside its existing assessment of numeracy and scientific literacy.

The second article (pp.13-17) discusses how Nicole Van Sickle transforms her Grade 6/7 classroom into a virtual economy. In this environment, students get paid for various classroom jobs (such as garbage cleaner, homework monitor) in classroom currency with deductions taken for EI, CPP and tax; they also make down payment and take out a mortgage on their desks.
